MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minneapolis police say an overnight fire at a mosque on the city’s north side was accidental in nature and not suspicious.
The fire burned in the entryway at Tawfiq Islamic Center, on the Lyndale Avenue North, in the city’s Hawthorne neighborhood.
Fire crews arrived at the scene shortly after midnight and found a window broken out and flames in the entryway. They quickly knocked down the flames.
Fire investigators spent Monday morning trying to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, some in Minnesota’s Muslim community expressed concern that the fire could be the result of bias.
Around noontime, Minneapolis police said that it was determined the fire was accident/electrical in nature, and not suspicious.
