Republican debt ceiling bill dead on arrival in Democratic-controlled Senate

The debt ceiling bill Republicans passed in the House is dead on arrival in the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has said. The proposed legislation would raise the debt limit and slash trillions of dollars in government spending.
