MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Ray Reco McNeary will face charges on Friday for taking hostages during an alleged robbery at a St. Cloud bank.

The eight-hour standoff ended around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when the last of five hostages was released from a Wells Fargo bank and McNeary was taken into custody.

The 35-year-old will face charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and second-degree assault, according to the St. Cloud Police Department. Currently, he is in Stearns County Jail.

The incident began around 2 p.m. after a man became upset over a transaction inside the bank. The branch manager then, concerned for the safety of his customers and employees, hit a panic alarm. Several customers fled, but five employees remained an were held hostage.

At one point, McNeary used a bank employee’s Facebook page to live stream his interactions with law enforcement which were taking place through a bank teller window.

Over the course of several hours that evening, some of the employees were released, and some made it out on their own.

“I can tell you some of the hostages were released by the suspect. And some flat-out made a run for the door and made it out safely. The last hostage being held took his chance and made a run for the door – and both tactical units made an entry and took the suspect into custody without incident,” said St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson.

Anderson said McNeary has a 10-year criminal history, including some violent crime.

Police say no physical injuries were suffered during the incident, and McNeary was not carrying a firearm.
