High School Football Season Moved To Spring With Shorter Season, Fewer Games

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — There’ll be no high school football season in Minnesota this fall.

Board members of the Minnesota State High School League voted Tuesday to move the football season to spring, with a shorter season, fewer games, and no scrimmages. The postseason plan has yet to be determined.

The move comes as Minnesota schools prepare to start the 2020-2021 school year with COVID-19 still spreading in the state. Minneapolis Public Schools and St. Paul Public Schools have already announced that students will start classes via distance learning.

The MSHSL board also voted Tuesday to move the volleyball season to spring. All other fall sports, including soccer, will remain the fall, with restrictions.

This is a developing story. Check back for more.
